MSC Reading Preparation: Foundational Skills to Support Reading
This course is intended to meet the re-licensure requirement for reading preparation as approved by your local continuing education committee. It has been developed to fulfill Minnesota State Statue 122A.187, Subdivision 5 as well as the Professional and Educator Licensing Standards Board Renewal Requirements.
This course was developed in collaboration with the Minnesota Service Cooperatives. It focuses on six areas that are key to reading development: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and reading motivation and engagement.
Educators from PreK-12 would find this course relevant to their instruction with students; however, teachers in grades K-6 are the audience that would find this information most relevant to their classroom instruction.
Each section contains information on research related to that area and strategies that teachers can implement in the classroom. Additional resources to explore in each area have been included.
Participants earn 2.5 CEUs for course completion.
