Description
The Paraprofessionals 101 course is a course designed to help paraprofessionals learn more about the responsibilities, roles, and obligations of a paraprofessional within a school.
In this course, paraprofessionals will:
- define what a paraprofessional is and what he/she does within a school.
- identify the chain of command within a school district.
- learn to establish a positive environment and model positive behavior.
- learn how to develop a professional working relationship with a supervising teacher.
- distinguish between the roles and responsibilities of a paraprofessional and that of a teacher.
- learn about maintaining confidentiality in the work.
- examine Minnesota academic standards and benchmarks.
- review instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- learn more about the local and state assessments students take throughout the year.
- distinguish potential reasons for student behavior and determine how to respond appropriately.
- understand the ethical obligations as a paraprofessional within the district.
Each paraprofessional will develop a written reflection throughout the course and will receive a certificate of completion to provide to his/her supervisor.
This course will take approximately 3 hours to complete.
